The Jersey Boys

Had a fun couple of days with John and Tom on the East River and also the Taylor River this week. They grew up together in NJ and make the trip here each year to fish. John got this nice brown trout on the Taylor River fishing a dry-dropper rig.…

Taylor River C&R

Jack caught some really nice fish this afternoon up at the C&R. He did great his first time fishing there and landed several big trout on small dry flies. It was a fun afternoon!

The salmon are here!

Deb got this nice kokanee on the East River at our ERA Club yesterday. We’re seeing some salmon stacking up in the big holes and the numbers should increase over the next two weeks or so. Most fish are very silver right now and a few are getting some color…

Green Drakes?

Lots of people are wondering if we’ll see a Green Drake hatch up at the Taylor River C&R stretch. I saw a few yesterday and got one fish on a Drake pattern, but there really hasn’t been a major hatch of that insect yet. The PMD hatch continues, and it…

Streamer Fishing

Dennis and I had the opportunity to fish the Taylor River at Crystal Creek today. It was cold and wet/rainy, and a perfect day to chase big fish with streamers. We also caught a lot of fish on dry flies when the PMDs hatched. It was an incredible day.

Taylor River C&R

It rained and hailed, and it got pretty cold up at the C&R today. But it fished great. I landed over 20 fish on dry flies in about 3 hours this afternoon, including this nice fat cutbow below. I wasn’t real happy about turning 55 today, but I sort of…

Gunnison River

Had a really fun day on the Gunnison River Ranch today fishing with Kate and Seth in the morning and Tom and Joanie in the afternoon. Everyone did well and caught some nice fish. Photos below are Kate and Seth with some nice brown trout. Great job!

Julie and the Wiggle-Set

Julie had some fun chasing big fish up at the Taylor River C&R today for the first time. She landed this nice 20-inch rainbow early on and then mastered the wiggle-set later while dry fly fishing. Joking aside, she is really doing great with the fly rod lately. I was…

Dry Fly Fishing

Dry fly fishing on the Taylor River has been really good lately. There has been a good mix of PMDs, BWOs, caddis, and midges. I got into some nice fish yesterday afternoon after my client trip, including this fat 20-inch cutbow which I caught on a size 22 emerger. It’s…

Taylor River C&R

Some rain and cloud cover got some bugs hatching and fish feeding at the C&R this afternoon. The trout were fussy off and on, but once you got the right fly and a good drift, you would get some takes.
