Had a fun day on the river today, with plenty of nice rainbows and browns. It was my first day out since last August, and it was good to be out there. There were lots of midges about and the fish were moving.

We’ve had a very tough winter here in the Colorado Rockies with very little snowpack. This, along with very dry weather and higher than normal temperatures, will likely mean low flows for the rivers with higher water temps. We’ll all need to keep an eye on things and take extra care of the fish.

I have some surgeries coming up, so I’ve put the fishing gear away until next spring. Looking forward to getting on the rivers then.

We had a fun day up in the high country this week, catching wild cutthroat, cutbows, and rainbows in a small mountain creek. It was extra fun with short, 3-weight glass rod.

Caught an absolutely gorgeous brown trout today Euro Nymphing with a size 20 baetis. Great fun!

This pretty rainbow was Peri’s first fish of the year. A great start!

Spring is here and it’s time to dust off the fly fishing gear. I hope to get out in the next couple of weeks as the weather warms up and the rivers rise. Looks like it will be a great spring and a good time to pick up some plump, pre-spawn rainbows.

We’ve had a really nice fall so far, with warm weather and good fishing. The weather is changing now, and we have snow in the mountains. Cooler temps with cloud cover got the fish moving recently, and I caught some really nice, chunky rainbows on the Gunnison.
