First day on the river for 2016. Spent a couple of hours fishing this afternoon and caught a lot of fish, including this really good brown trout of just over 20 inches here.

Deep Freeze
The Gunnison Valley has been in a deep freeze after the recent snow storms. It got down to 32 below zero yesterday morning. The snow is good news for skiers and also for the rivers come spring. The ski resort in Crested Butte is reporting a 5-foot base. The snowpack in the high country is looking good so far. Looking forward to a warm-up though!

Merry Christmas
The Gunnison River at North Bridge on Christmas Day. Merry Christmas all you trout. I know you’re in there.
20 Below
The scene out back this morning…20 below zero.
Christmas Storm
We’re getting a pretty good series of storms here in the Colorado Rockies this week, just in time for Christmas. Got about a foot of snow here at the house in Gunnison so far, and it’s snowing right now. Looks like another storm coming Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Not a lot of fishing going on right now!
Happy Thanksgiving
Spent a good part of the day on the Taylor River. Beautiful day and great fishing. Caught a lot of fish, including this nice 21-inch brown trout here. Just an awesome wild trout.
Winter fishing begins!
Winter is definitely here in the Gunnison Valley. The weather isn’t too brutal yet, so there are opportunities to fish. I had a very nice afternoon on the Taylor River today.
Fall Fishing Winding Down
With the first major winter storm heading our way tonight, today may have been the last really nice day to be on the river. You have to enjoy it while you can!
Taylor River @ Taylor River Lodge
It was hard to believe it was November today! It was a beautiful warm day, and the fishing was good. Randy and Darcy had a good time on the Taylor River at the Taylor River Lodge (booked via Irwin Guides) today, landing some nice fish like this big rainbow here.
