I tested out my new bamboo rod yesterday. It was my first day out this season with bamboo. It was a blast. My friend, Ron Barch, makes beautiful rods. I highly recommend Ron if you’re looking for a fine custom made bamboo rod. Visit Ron’s website at: www.aldercreekrods.com.
The recent cold snap slowed down the run-off, and the rivers have dropped and cleared. It was cold yesterday when I got to the river (upper 20s), but it warmed up and fishing was very good. I even found a nice brookie.
It was a beautiful day on the East River yesterday, and it was fun to get out with Doug and Lewie. We’re in the early stages of run-off, but the river was still in great shape. For reasons unknown to mere mortals, fishing was much slower than I expected. However,…

I have been fishing a stonefly nymph we call the “Pickle” a lot lately. Officially, it is known as Pat’s Rubber Leg Stonefly Nymph. It is a very productive fly even though it doesn’t look quite as sexy as other stonefly patterns.
This was a really fat rainbow from this afternoon. It was a challenge trying to hold the fish in one hand and the camera in the other. I could barely get my hand around this one. So I just clicked a few off and hoped for the best.
