Calm before the storm

We’ve all been waiting for the coming of Draco – a fairly big winter storm which is supposed to hit our area tonight and tomorrow. It was overcast and in the low 30s, so I decided to hike in and fish the East River. There was some fresh snow on…

An afternoon on the Taylor River

During this time of year, I watch the weather forecasts like a hawk. When it looks like we might get a relatively warm afternoon (like in the 20s or 30s), I try to hit the river for a few hours. Dave and I fished the Taylor River C&R on 12/13,…

Early Winter Fishing

Well it’s not looking much like winter yet here in the Rockies. We’re still waiting for the storms to hit and the snow to fall. But I’m sure it will come. It’s been in the 40s lately, and whatever snow we do get in the mountains, doesn’t last very long.…

Taylor River C&R

I had the C&R section of the Taylor River to myself yesterday for 5 hours. It was sunny and warm, and the fishing was very good. I caught most of my fish in the late morning hours, but I got into some bigger fish in the afternoon, like this nice…

East River Trout and Bald Eagles

There were still quite a few salmon in the East River today, and there were plenty of rainbows and browns in there with them. The fish were in very shallow water near gravel, so an egg pattern worked well. I saw about 7 or 8 eagles there today. One launched…

Early Morning Rainbow

Here are a couple of shots of another really nice Gunnison River rainbow trout from November 1st. This was a plump fish with beautiful colors, and just a great looking trout overall. I caught it on an egg pattern soon after I walked in the river after just a few…

Fish of the Week

Dave caught the fish of the day, and the week, yesterday on the Gunnison River. It was a really nice chunky rainbow that was hanging out in the riffles. Fishing was slower than earlier in the week, but we managed to catch some decent fish.

Indian Summer

We have had temperatures in the 50s and 60s this week, so it’s been a great time to get out to fish. Here is another shot of a nice rainbow from the Gunnison River. Dave takes great underwater photos!
